I am now beginning to think about the aesthetic I’m going for. This mainly comes through names, artwork and lyrics. The band had at this point settled on the name River Ruby, thought of by our harpist. This evokes a lot of imagery and gives us a lot of branding opportunities. Posters and photos could be ruby or album work could be centred around a river for example.

I have sent George, our singer, the demos with and without vocals for him to practice. This led to some unforeseen difficulties with range. Having written for my own voice, not George's, some of the melodies didn’t suit him. Due to this movement 1 had to be transposed 2 tones up and movement 2 two tones down.
I met with George to discuss lyric choices. Due to the emotional bond many singers form with the lyrics they write I wanted George to be involved in the writing of these. This also allows him to have his own creative input and bring in his own creative influences. It was George's idea to have a running theme through the EP. We eventually settled on the story of two lovers who are falling out of love due to a lack of communication. The overall message of the EP is that communication is key in relationships
